At the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation, we’re still revelling over the tremendous success of Spurs & Sparkles and feeling just so honoured to have been chosen as this year’s beneficiary of the fun and magical equestrian-themed evening held at Wesley Clover Parks.
Why, we think the night could very well go down as one of the best events of the summer. It’s not every day you get to spend a beautiful evening beneath a magnificent party tent, with great friends, food, drinks and music. So many sponsors stepped up to support the event, including our presenting sponsor RBC Royal Bank.
What made the evening particularly unique was the Get Up and Gallop competition. It involved show jumping athletes on horses combined with local business leaders and celebrities trying to complete a wild and crazy obstacle course as quickly as possible.
So much time, effort and thought went into making the evening so special. We’re particularly grateful to the committee co-chairs, Karen Sparks, executive director of Wesley Clover Parks, and Catherine McLaughlin from Terlin Construction for their leadership roles and the entire team at Wesley Clover Parks for creating such a memorable event.
We were delighted to see our QCH Foundation Board Chair, Fred Seller and his lovely wife Stacey, along with some of his board colleagues, including Susan Finlay and Dr. Ruchi Murthy. QCH Foundation President and CEO Shannon Gorman took a few minutes to express her deep gratitude to all the guests, sponsors and organizers.
“As our community grows, so do the demands on essential services,” she said. “Our hospital relies on the generosity of our community to support key priorities, some of which include the purchase of vital equipment and medical devices, training and education for our staff, and construction of the new Barbara Crook and Dan Greenberg Mental Health Centre, as well as upgrades to our surgical suites.”
Shannon also expressed her gratitude to QCH’s “dedicated and steadfast community of supporters” and their investment of “time, talent and resources to ensure our hospital has the latest equipment and services to help our growing and ageing population.”
We’re proud to share that everyone who was part of Spurs & Sparkles helped to raise more than $60,000 for our hospital. And that’s coming straight from the horse’s mouth.
Thank you to the amazing sponsors, riders, volunteers and donors — and a very special round of applause for the incredible team at Wesley Clover Parks for organizing this very special and unique fundraising event and for making Spurs & Sparkles 2023 such a huge success!
