Meet Daniel.

After he and his family received care at QCH, he was compelled to give back to the hospital and community.

Daniel’s first volunteer position was at the QCH Gift Box and he absolutely loved it. In the early days of the pandemic, Daniel played a key role in helping to keep the gift shop’s doors open.

“The other volunteers were so supportive and knowledgeable. It created such a great environment and learning experience,” he says. “I’m especially grateful to Nadene, Mike and Glenn for making my experience so positive.”

As a volunteer at the information desk, Daniel got to interact with many people. There were many times he helped labouring mothers find their way to the Childbirth Unit. He still remembers the first time he delivered a gift to an inpatient unit.

“I will never forget the conversation that I had with this patient and the ‘thank you’ I received. His family couldn’t be there with him, so their gift meant the world to him.”

In early 2024, Daniel was recognized for completing 500 volunteer hours.

Nowadays, Daniel is a QCH employee, working as a scheduling clerk under the human resources department.

“My motivation to continue my journey at QCH was being able to make someone else’s day a little bit better than it was before we met. The satisfaction that I would gain, knowing that I made a difference, is an unforgettable feeling.”

Outside of the hospital, Daniel is completing his undergraduate in Biomedical Science to become a physician, where he’ll continue giving back to his community; and maybe even inspire a patient or two to become a volunteer.
