Do you know the story of Florence Nightingale?
In the field of nursing, Florence is well-known. Her dedicated and compassionate treatment of soldiers in the mid-1800s was crucial in developing what is still known today as “modern nursing practice.” She worked tirelessly, providing patients with everything she could to help them survive their battlefield injuries and return home to family and friends.
My name is Yvonne Wilson and I’ve been a registered nurse for over 35 years. At QCH, my nursing colleagues will tell you that nursing is not just a career, it’s a calling. I couldn’t agree more. Nurses are in the spaces and places where care happens. And just like Florence over 200 years ago, today’s nurses are at the forefront of healthcare innovation.
With gratitude to our generous community, we have medical devices and equipment that give us fast, accurate results right at our patient’s bedside. There are new treatments and medications that improve recovery time and help patients head home sooner. At every step, nurses contribute to these advancements in treatments, technologies, and patient care. Their commitment to learning and adapting will shape the future of healthcare in our community.
QCH Foundation donors have helped provide the tools and the training to build an environment of compassion and respect at Queensway Carleton Hospital that extends from inside the walls and out into the community. Even before I came to work here, I was impressed by the warm, friendly culture. It sets us apart from other hospitals. Thank you!
Did you know there are over half a million nurses across Canada? Hospitals like QCH compete for the best nurses available and when we have exceptional nurses on our team, it’s important to keep them! That means providing ongoing training and making sure they have the right tools and equipment to deliver the highest quality of care. Your support will help make this possible.
Throughout Nursing Week 2024 (May 6 to 12) QCH nurses will be celebrating the many roles that nurses play in a patient’s healthcare journey. Through their compassion and expertise, nurses contribute directly to the health and well-being of their patients.
Nurses are at the front-line to advocate for their patients, ensuring they receive the best possible care and support. Following in Florence Nightingale’s footsteps, this advocacy can bring about transformative changes in treatment and recovery. As educators, nurses are shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. At QCH we are excited to be part of a brand-new program that will train new nurses right here, in the spaces and places where your care happens.
As Vice President Patient Care and Chief Nursing Executive, I feel privileged to work alongside this amazing team. Please consider a donation today in recognition of their passion and dedication and help QCH nurses provide the care you and your family have come to expect and deserve.
