Queensway Carleton Hospital serves one of the fastest-growing and aging populations in the entire country, caring for sick and injured patients far and wide. That’s why residents of Almonte, when in need of serious medical attention, often end up at QCH, their closest full-service regional hospital.
“If the patients need extra care they come over here,” said Mary Ellen Adams, president of Almonte Community Co-ordinators (ACC) at QCH during a recent $10,000 cheque presentation the group made to our hospital.
Mary Ellen was joined by ACC vice president Cathy Peacock and directors Renate Kordos and Gloria Helde, all of whom are Almonte residents. Each of them has sought treatment at QCH for themselves or a family member.
ACC raises funds through two non-profit retail stores that it runs: The Hub and Rebound. The former sells donated clothing, accessories, housewares, books, games and toys while the latter specializes in donated household furniture, appliances and electronics. “Our donors are very, very generous,” they said.
The stores, located in Almonte, are open five days a week and rely mostly on volunteers. Thanks to their efforts, ACC is able to donate its proceeds to such causes as QCH Foundation, which relies entirely on the community and caring donors to purchase priority medical equipment and technology.
QCH Foundation has invested the $10,000 donation toward replacing aging MRI equipment with new advanced diagnostic imaging technology.
A new MRI will enhance our team’s ability to serve the community by increasing scan capacity, reducing wait times caused in part by the pandemic-related backlog, and ensuring our patients receive top-quality care, right here at home.
