About the Muzungu Joel Legacy Golf Tournament

A legacy is the story of some one’s life, the things they did, places they went, goals they accomplished, their failures, and more. Legacy is something that a person leaves behind to be remembered by – a pathway that carries forward to future generations.

Muzungu Joe Granata, made family (or a basketball team) out of everyone he befriended. He effortlessly made people feel comfortable and important – with Muzungu Joe, you felt like you belonged. The AZBGC community will be forever grateful to Joe’s beloved wife Pina, daughters Cassandra and Samantha and grand-daughter Vienna and his wider family for sharing this mighty man with us.

Now we want to ensure Joe’s legacy lives on – we want to ensure that Joe’s dreams for the Kamengo kids are realized. Joe cared deeply about each and every one of the AZBGC children and youth and was always willing to lend a hand to any task, whether it was raising money for school fees through playing Santa, cutting his hair, or getting donations from friends and workmates. To Muzungu Joe it was very simple – “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE KIDS” and “WHEN DOES THE GAME START?” Muzungu Joe was a giant among men, he had a hug and an encouraging smile that carry forward to future generations in a fashion which allow those family members to adopt and adapt them to make their lives meaningful and fruitful. For everyone he encountered – we are all much better people for having met him. Now, we, his friends and family, are working to continue Joe’s legacy and realize his dreams for the AZBGC children and youth of Kamengo, Uganda.

A portion of proceeds from the tournament will directly support the Barbara Crook and Dan Greenberg Mental Health Centre at Queensway Carleton Hospital.
