Everyday I am thankful for the dedicated, compassionate and caring team at Queensway Carleton Hospital. Recently, I had the opportunity to bring some of our wonderful donors on a tour of the new Mental Health Unit at QCH and meet with the team working on this important project that will help increase access to critical mental health services for our community.
Today, preparations are underway for the opening of the Mental Health Inpatient Unit. When we officially open the doors later this year, the new unit will increase the bed count from 24 to 28. The four additional beds will be in the psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU). Inpatients will also benefit from a common dining room, quiet room, exercise room, and a secure outdoor space.
Shortly after the new Inpatient Unit opens, renovations will begin on the existing mental health unit – creating a revitalized space for outpatient care.
This project is a reality thanks to the inspirational leadership of QCH Foundation donors, who opened their hearts and wallets to support these much-needed improvements. When complete in 2023, the size of the space will have more than doubled, allowing more people to access critical care when they need it.
As we gather with family and friends over the Thanksgiving long weekend, please take a moment to reflect on the tremendous work that is being done to support the most vulnerable members of our community.
Wishing you a happy thanksgiving filled family, friends, love, and laughter,
Shannon Gorman
