Susan Coates has spent the last 25 years working in various roles at QCH. Today, she is the Clinical Manager of the Post Anesthesia Care unit (PACU) and the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC).
The PACU is responsible for patients who have undergone surgery and who required anesthetic during the procedure. They are moved directly from the OR to a recovery suite, where they are cared for until they are ready to move to the next step of the recovery process.
Susan loves working at QCH and the community feel of the hospital. Growing up on a farm in a small town outside of Ottawa, she has deep roots in the region. This month’s Cooking with the Q features a family recipe that has that ‘summertime’ feel.
“When I was growing up, my grandmother would make this dish for our family picnics. Every Sunday we would head to the lake and she would bring her delicious pineapple fluff for the kids to enjoy,” Susan recalls. The kids would swim all afternoon while my parents sat, relaxed, and watched. Pineapple fluff was my childhood.”
