A Personal Experience. A Lasting Gift to QCH

Carm story

For Mukesh and Suzette Wadhwani, giving back to healthcare is personal.

Before, during and after the pandemic, they experienced first-hand the compassionate, expert care provided at hospitals in our region. At Queensway Carleton Hospital, Suzette was deeply grateful for care provided by Dr. James Randall, an orthopedic surgeon who applied his skill and expertise to repair her hip and knee, relieving severe pain and restoring her mobility.

It was a reminder of how fortunate they felt to have access to Canada’s healthcare system, and the treatments that gave them back their health, allowing them to travel, spend time with friends and family, and do the things they love.

“We felt so blessed that we live in Canada,” Mukesh shared.

That gratitude became action. After consulting with Dr. Randall, the Wadhwanis learned that the surgical team needed a new C-arm imaging machine.

A C-arm uses X-ray technology to provide real-time images during surgical procedures, helping surgeons see the area being treated as they work. And because the machine can be easily moved from one operating room to another, several procedures can be scheduled in a day to take advantage of this powerful and versatile piece of equipment.

The Wadhwanis wanted to be help more patients benefit from this modern technology, so they  made a significant donation to fund the purchase of a new C-arm.

For Mukesh and Suzette, the gift reflects more than their appreciation for the care they received. It is also an opportunity to give others access to expert surgical care at Queensway Carleton Hospital.   During their conversation with the QCH team, Mukesh spoke about the importance of community support and his hope that the new machine would benefit many people in the years ahead.

“We hope the machine is going to treat many people,” Mukesh shared.

Dr. Randall highlighted the important role community generosity plays in hospital care. While government funding supports hospital operations, it is the generosity of donors that funds the purchase of medical equipment.  With support from donors like the Wadhwanis, QCH can continue providing exceptional care close to home.

Their healthcare journey had its challenges, but it ultimately strengthened their appreciation for the people who cared for them at QCH. For Mukesh and Suzette, that experience became more than a reason to be grateful. It became a reason to give back.

The Wadhwanis’ generosity is a reminder that philanthropy often begins with something personal: an experience, a moment of gratitude or a desire to help others. Community support helps QCH invest in the equipment its healthcare teams need to care for patients today and into the future.
