Season’s Greetings from Shannon Gorman

With the steady increase in the Omicron variant we are once again dealing with the impacts of the pandemic. As the case numbers climb, the QCH team is on the frontlines administering COVID-19 testing, vaccinations and booster shots in an effort to help keep our community safe. The remarkable work they are doing every day is saving lives.

While the last 21 months have been difficult, we have accomplished so much by working together. We are grateful to you, our amazing donors, for your unwavering and generous support.

Thanks to your generosity, QCH Foundation has played an important role in providing our hospital with urgently needed resources for expansion, innovation and excellence in patient care. We have a long list of accomplishments, but I wanted to share some of the Foundation’s most notable highlights.

Shovels are in the ground for the expansion and rebuild of our Mental Health Unit. This new site will provide additional inpatient beds and expanded outpatient mental health services for our community. This project was funded in part thanks to the $6M raised through our Hopes Rising Campaign.

We have raised $1.5M of the $2.5M required to help transform 11 surgical suites with technology and equipment that will reduce wait times, build capacity, attract the best and brightest surgical talent, and most importantly, improve health outcomes for our patients.

We hosted our most successful GivingTuesday Campaign, raising $60K for the purchase of new equipment for the expert medical team at QCH.

Our Women In Philanthropy members raised more than $54K this past year, and on December 7th they voted to leverage those funds to purchase seven Electronic Vital Signs Monitors for the QCH Emergency Department. This essential piece of equipment monitors and records a patient’s blood pressure, pulse, temperature and oxygen saturation levels and then the information is uploaded directly to the patient’s electronic medical chart so the healthcare team can access and review the results in real-time.

Construction is underway inside QCH to support the addition of 15 new inpatient beds. The start of this project was only possible thanks to the funding provided by our incredible donors, and we are looking forward to seeing the reimagined space move forward in the new year.

On behalf of the QCH Foundation team and our Board of Directors, we would like to thank you for your tremendous support in 2021. The impact you are helping to inspire is being felt each and every day by the hospital team and the patients who turn to it for care.

Wishing you and yours the very best for the holiday season and a happy, safe and healthy New Year.

With sincere gratitude,

Shannon Gorman, President & CEO, Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation
