QCH Receives Trailblazer Award in Geriatrics

QCH Alternate Level of Care (ALC) team

QCH Innovations Reach the World Stage!

Two of our nursing-led innovations for improving the quality of care for older adults have been recognized for a national award that celebrates clinical teams who change the landscape of healthcare. These innovations include the Behavioural Emergency Response Team (BERT) code initiative and the work of our Alternate Level of Care (ALC) Nurse Manager, Christine Cercena for a collaborative approach to managing responsive behaviors on our ALC Unit. The purpose of the BERT is to respond urgently to requests from care providers when they have a geriatric patient with behavioural challenges.

The concepts were submitted to the Nurses Improving Care For Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) world conference in the United States which resulted in an invitation to present both initiatives. This award is presented in partnership with the NICHE and the ABIM Foundation to celebrate leadership in improving quality care and promoting evidence-based medicine.

Congratulations to QCH’s Geriatric Nursing and Geriatricians teams!
