A message from Shannon Gorman: Our funding priorities

In the early days of the pandemic, your incredible generosity supported our frontline workers by providing funds needed to purchase urgently needed medical equipment to save lives at Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH).

Thanks to your generous and ongoing support, the QCH team has been able to continue to provide the best possible care for patients.

As the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel approaches, the needs of QCH are ever present. Hospital capacity continues to be a challenge. Our surgical suites need upgrading. Outdated medical tools and equipment need to be replaced with new technology.

I want to take this opportunity to share with you, our generous donors, three projects that urgently need your support. These priorities will advance patient care and improve healthcare in our community as we recover from COVID-19.

Building Space Between the Walls

With west Ottawa’s only Emergency Department (ED) in one of the fastest growing hospital catchment areas in the country, QCH has an immediate need to create more space between its walls. Most days, QCH operates at or beyond capacity. With hundreds of patients being treated every day in our ED, those that require admission may wait for hours on a hallway gurney until an inpatient bed is available.

You can change that.

Your generosity will help build a comfortable, modern, fully-equipped space for 15 inpatient beds at QCH. There is no government funding for this urgently-needed project.

Advancing Surgery. Advancing Care.

Tens of thousands of patients rely on QCH’s surgical services every year, from simple diagnostic procedures to life-saving emergency care. With our busy emergency department, regionally renowned Total Joint Assessment Clinic, and the backlog of patients whose surgery was delayed because of COVID-19, our services are in demand now, more than ever.

To ensure we meet this growing need, and continue to advance surgery and patient care for our community, it is essential that we have the best and latest surgical equipment.

The Latest and Best Medical Technology and Equipment

Replacing medical equipment that is out-of-date, or at the end of its useful life, and purchasing the latest and best medical technology is essential for providing the highest standard of healthcare to our rapidly growing community.

Many people are surprised to learn there is no government funding for hospital equipment purchases.

The entire cost of new tools and technology must be covered by donations from people like you.

This year, due to COVID-19, the need is even greater, as some purchases planned for the future had to be expedited to care for an increased number of patients and their urgent needs.

You, our community, have risen to the past year’s challenges in remarkable ways and your generosity has been felt by our patients and everybody on our QCH team.

With your ongoing support, our community will continue to benefit from exemplary healthcare in the months ahead.

With sincere gratitude,

Shannon Gorman, President & CEO, Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation
