QCH infection control professionals recognized for outstanding work

Dr. Rose, Chair, Queensway Carleton Hospital’s (QCH)  Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Committee, Colette Ouellet, QCH Director of IPAC and QCH’s Infectious Disease (ID) physicians recently made a generous donation to our Foundation, and nominated the QCH IPAC team as Champions of Care, in recognition of their incredible work throughout the pandemic. The team were presented with limited edition COVID-19 Champion of Care pins at a special off-site celebration.

“IPAC, the original Patient Safety movement, is not used to the attention it has received in the last 18 months. This team rose to the occasion admirably. From the very first hint of trouble in Wuhan, our infection control professionals were there, planning, training, making improvements in processes, and guiding the infection prevention and control components as the clinical teams of QCH innovated to deliver amazing COVID-19 programs like the West COVID-19 Care Centre, the COVID-19 Cohort clinical areas, the QCH Vaccine Clinic, and of course our outreach to local Long Term Care facilities. All this while continuing all the usual duties of an IPAC team.

The hours have been long, the ever-changing directives at times frustrating to implement, the stories often heartbreaking. This team has come through with diligence, perseverance, compassion, integrity, and innovation. The staff and patients of QCH, and indeed the people of the City of Ottawa, owe these professionals a debt they will never likely fully reckon. I am so proud to work with them.” – Dr. Rose

A BIG congratulations to our amazing IPAC team, and thank you Dr. Rose, Colette Ouellet, and the QCH ID physicians for recognizing the team in this very special way.

At QCH, you have the opportunity to recognize and show appreciation when a member of the hospital team has provided exceptional care, by making a donation in honour of the care received. When you make a Champion of Care donation you can send a personal message of thanks that will be shared with your Champion. They will also receive a special pin to wear with pride. Your gift not only shows your appreciation, your support will ensure the QCH team continues to have the equipment and tools they need to care for you, your family, friends and our entire community.
