Séan McCann, founder of Great Big Sea, acclaimed singer-songwriter, JUNO Award nominee, and mental health and recovery advocate has been a generous supporter of Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation for many years, particularly because of his deep devotion to be an advocate for mental health care in our community.
Séan has performed at signature Foundation events such as Hope Blooms at the Farm in 2018 and also held Séan McCann’s GREAT BIG CHRISTMAS PARTY most recently in December 2019 all in support of Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation’s Hopes Rising Campaign. Hopes Rising is a campaign to help build a renovated Mental Health Unit at Queensway Carleton Hospital that supports hope, healing and recovery for people in the midst of a mental health crisis.
He has also shown solidarity with the campaign by performing in our mental health unit several times over the last few years for our patients bringing joy, positive vibes and support all through his powerful music. Séan has become quite popular in our mental health unit with our patients, and he is dearly loved and appreciated by many.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, visitors restrictions have been put in place for patient safety. As a mechanism to continue to spread his positive message, Séan and his wife, Andrea, began a series Facebook LIVE music and chat sessions to connect with his many fans; the staff in the mental health unit have broadcasted his live streams everyday for the patients to bring them hope while visitors are not allowed.
Most recently, Séan and Andrea dedicated a live stream to celebrate and support the courageous effort of our front line workers and all the hospitals in our community. Thank you Séan and Andrea for your support during these times – we are forever grateful that you choose to share your wonderful music with us!
